Windows Server 2016 has several new features compared to the previous version:
Windows Containers: Containers enable operating-system-level virtualization by providing access to the operating system, libraries, and underlying resources for hosting applications in an isolated user space.
Hyper-V: Win Server 2016 Standard provides shielded virtual machines that minimize data theft and virtual machine health. It does this by encoding both and preventing the inspection of graphics signals and disks.
Federation Services for Active Directory: New to ADFS is the ability to authenticate users stored in LDAP or cloud providers.
Nano Server: A Nano server within Windows Server 2016 must be managed remotely. It does not provide local login functionality and only supports 64-bit apps. Nano Server is optimized for use in private clouds and data centers. Moreover, it is optimized for running web services such as DNS.
Windows Defender: Windows Defender is the standard Antimalware application installed by default in Windows Server 2016 Standard. This app detects and neutralizes malware threats in real-time with automatic updates.
Of course, a Windows Server 2016 license also grants access to many well-known and proven features and functionalities such as DHCP Server, DNS Server, UDDI services, Remote Access and File Services.
